I dig ridiculous movies…not sure if they’re considered classics…but I dig them…

Super Troopers

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Dumb and Dumber

Zoolander

Animal House

Caddyshack

Dodgeball

Stripes

LATE ENTRY: I dig these as well…have to add these…

Superbad (McLovin…lol…see pic below)

Wayne’s World

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

I second many of these and many that other members posted but Fast Times is definitely one of my all time favorites.

"Make up your mind dude, is he gonna s*** or is he gonna kill us?"

I was just watching this intro again thinking of how awesome it made life in the air force look. I remember as a little kid saying I wanted to do that and my uncle, who had signed with the RAAF as a young man was just like no, screw those guys, I wanted to be a pilot or a controller and they talked me into enlisting them made me fly a typewriter for my whole contract.

It's a fun movie, but I did kick out of reading someone point out all the errors in it a few years ago: https://www.military.com/off-duty/2019/07/22/79-cringeworthy-errors-top-gun.html

Agreed. I love Holy Grail but I give the edge to Life of Brian. But the best MP sketch (imo) is this one:

I don't know how I missed ever seeing that one before! Thank you.

This one always bugged the shit out of me...

(31:31) Maverick "hits the brakes" by pushing the throttles forward, which would increase power, not decrease it.

When I first saw the movie on it's initial run, I was like "Is no one else seeing this!!!!" 😀

That's Hollywood for you. The skydiving scene in the original Point Break is similar. While it's an absolutely stunning scene, it's all fantasy. The average free fall time in real life is about 30 seconds.

Rain Man, Duel, The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Aliens - too many to list. I had the pleasure of seeing a special screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey at the cinema last week and it's incredible on the big screen - you really get to appreciate the late 60's aesthetic when you see the models, props and costumes up close - amazing. Certainly made me look up the custom Hamiltons in the movie.

Cheers to @gbesq for opening the thread. I love this topic and many people already beat me to name a few favorites of mine like Godfather II or Dr. Zhivago.

Two absolute classics that have not yet had any mention here:

Fiddler on the Roof with Topol as leading actor and music written by John Williams, played by Isaac Stern:

GoodFellas, directed by Scorsese and starring Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci:

How not to love the famous scene... "Funny how?"

Withnail & I (1987)
I love this and have gone to the showings at Crow Crag twice.

Robbery (1967)
This was the film that made Steve McQueen request the director, Peter Yates, for Bullitt. Peter Yates initial said no as he didn’t want to be known as the car chase guy.

Get Carter (1971)
The Italian Job (1969)
Both of these have been remade, don’t watch the remakes.

I am currently watching Thief, from 1981 with James Caan. First time seeing it since it came out, and I remember loving it at the time, so I guess we’ll see if it holds up to my memories of it!

At the very least, the soundtrack will be good...whole movie done by Tangerine Dream...

Just finished watching the Battle of Britain. I saw it in the theater with my father when it came out in 1969. I was 10. I remember the dogfighting scenes vividly on the big screen. Harry Saltzman, who directed the film, used 100 or so vintage WWII aircraft along with radio controlled models to film the aerial scenes which have aged incredibly well. And the sound of that V-12 27 liter Rolls-Royce Merlin engine in the Supermarine Spitfire - wow. What a machine.

Michael Mann has done a lot of good work.
I’d even rate Crime Story and LA Takedown as well as Heat and Public Enemies.

Indeed. I want to watch Manhunter at some point as well.

Thief was great by the way.
