In terms of mainstream American cinema, I'd certainly include 2001 A Space Odyssey, Apocalypse Now, and Bullitt, which featured an iconic performance from Steve McQueen, and brilliant score by Lalo Schifrin.

Also, as the term "classic" is malleable, I would, without hesitation, include Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein in the comedy genre.

And of course there are more!

I would certainly agree with all of those! Young Frankenstein is sheer genius.

I dig ridiculous movies…not sure if they’re considered classics…but I dig them…

Super Troopers

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Dumb and Dumber

Zoolander

Animal House

Caddyshack

Dodgeball

Stripes

LATE ENTRY: I dig these as well…have to add these…

Superbad (McLovin…lol…see pic below)

Wayne’s World

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

For some reason, I recall borrowing your copy of THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN. You and Steve Carell share an uncanny resemblance.

This must be in your top 10 list?

"Ran" Akira Kurowawa

An adaptation of "King Lear" set in the samurai era. Absolutely brilliant.

Full Metal Jacket. Always enjoyed the contrast of the boot camp part against the (much darker) second half.

Seven samurai, Dr. Strangelove, Casa Blanca, The Life of Brian, and Dr. No all immediately come to mind as some of my favorite classic movies.

The Great Escape is one of my wife's all time and it's one I definitely appreciate aa well!

I love the hunt for red October, along with Das Boot, K-19 even though it’s a bit lame. Submarine movies, because submarines are cool and Soviet ones tend to be the coolest (and most prone to exploding / doing interesting things).

Also in the comedy genre, I'd be remiss not to mention Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Undoubtedly a classic, even if some don't appreciate absurdist comedy.

Being a cinephile, I have a bunch of "favorite" classic movies.
I think Spielberg was firing on all eight cylinders in Jaws. Amazing movie.

The sniper "shoot me" scene is one that you wish you could unsee after viewing it.
