Okayyyyy, let's see how we did this year. I like this exercise because it forces me to be quasi-accountable for all my impulsive purchases.

In no order:
This beast of a 7021/0 Snowflake

A true grail of mine that took forever to find in the right condition:

Another true grail that took years to find in the right condition (at the right price)

Let's stay on the Carrera theme because...we'll be there a while. A very rare special dialed 3647N.

And after getting rid of a prior special dial (Volvo), I was able to re-buy one that I badly missed.

And this Carrera (which is actually quietly for sale) helped to fill the void that my stolen 7753SN left behind:

Shifting tones, I added my first big boy fancy watch!

And ventured further down the Rolex rabbit hole with this 1675 owned by a former fighter pilot.

Went further down the Movado M95 rabbit hole (I'm addicted now)

Added this Big Block because the condition was perfect and I had always been curious

And took a trip to the 1940's with a brand that I had never purchased before

There were some other flips and experiments along the way, but those were most of the high notes. This exercise makes you feel thankful for this crazy hobby and hopeful for 2019!

Cheers to all
Rob

When too much is greedy ?

Very nice collection with plenty of iconic watches 馃憤

Looking forward to seeing what 2019 will bring 馃槈
You know that it's never enough watches. 馃槜
Good going. I wonder what 2019 will have in store?!
Let's finish 2018 first. 馃槈
Thank you for sharing! I just realized I have only 1 thing to give my wife so she knows what I want for birthday/Christmas/Anniversary presents in the future... I will guide her to your IG feed and simply say "contact @sliceoftime_ and I'll take anything he has..." 馃槈

You are one of the collectors where I would be happy to have any one of the many you own!
Ha! Thanks my friend, appreciate that.
Looks like a great year 馃憤 I love dynamic collections 馃グ hope you still manage to land something new before the year end. Maybe something is already waiting under the Christmas (palm 馃榿) tree ? 馃槈
Cheers A! I'm hoping myself as well haha!
breath taking.....

Do you wear all of these in rotation?

best
bill
Thank you Bill! Yes, I do wear my watches in rotation everyday. 馃榾
You should be ashamed of yourself buddy 馃榾

The blue soleil is the king, but the other stuff is pretty mind blowing as well 馃槻
Hahaha, you played a part as well, so you need to be ashamed as well!
So just for curiosity / bluntness sake...I assume the ROI on $100,000 annual watch purchase is not a consideration given the kind of cash needed to acquire that many beautiful pieces in 1 year equates already ample 401k/retirement savings/independent wealth/inheritance/movie star or hedge fund manager income [given the fairness of skin on the hands in the pics], so the converse of putting $100k/yr in the market/Vanguard funds/etc is a moot point?

Not trying to "watch shame", and I'm well aware there are some impressive collections out there, and this is a watch forum, just interesting to actually see a post highlighting the obvious albeit rare proclivities of the capable collector [versus dealer].
Well, collecting watches is not an investment to start with. It has become popular recently hence the increase in value. There are far many impressive collectors out there and not just in watches.
My year was pretty lame in comparison...
Ummm, drool fest much... Nothing lame about those Grails!
Dibs. 馃憤
Ha! I think you need to type dibs 19 times. 馃榿
Love the Carreras and of course, the Soleil
Thank you G! Still over the moon with the Soleil!
In all seriousness, how do you possibly top this? I can鈥檛 imagine taking this to the next level in this era.
Thanks my friend, but I can imagine a few blokes off the top of my head. 馃槜
Great collection! what is the name/ref of that vulcain? I'm a big fan.
Not much information about these, Hodinkee did an article a while back about Paul Newman subdials on several brands, and Vulcain was one of them.
What a collection! How do you even pick a watch to wear in the morning?
Thanks! Simple, wear a different one everyday.

Thanks man, and well said. We need time to reflect on how crazy we are.

But seriously, crazy additions man, that 2447SN is almost illegal to own. 馃グ

You need your own thread for those pieces.

@sliceoftime_ @watchknut @ChicagoFrog all I can say is 馃槻. It's nice to see how some members here hunt down very prime examples of very fine watches. I bow low. 馃憤

I have a very soft spot for those Panda and reverse Panda chronos..Astounding!

As far as I'm concerned, I went through a rough 2 year journey in which major "shake ups" in my professional life have dictated which watches I could afford owning and keeping. I used to work in an office, so I basically wore vintage and valuable (to me) watches to work without thinking about them and enjoyed them tremendously. So gone are all of my vintage watches as they were no longer conducive to my new profession. Over the past few decades, I was fortunate enough to have owned some incredible vintage pieces. Today, I enjoy vintage watches even more, by browsing through the OF members incredible pieces. It's much cheaper! 馃榿

A few choice pieces made it through the "herd culling". To replace some of the vintage watches, I turned my attention to more affordable, yet interesting timepieces. I couldn't be happier. I won't bore you with individual pics of each watch. You will certainly notice the "shift" that is truly a reflection of how my life changed, but not my passion for watches.

So I offer OF members a glimpse at my 2 year journey from 2016 to what it is in late 2018.

The cornerstone. The elder stateman of my collection. It survived all the hustle and bustle. Without knowing, it became my favourite watch. The classic Sub date.

2016

Today.

I feel very fortunate to have these watches today.

Cheers,

Can鈥檛 hold a candle to some of the monster collectors on OF, but a decent year over here, so I鈥檒l play:

Happy hunting in 2019 fellow watch nuts!!!
