Solar "Aqua King-of-Wings" circa early-mid 1940s -- a.k.a. Tudor Oyster ref. 4463. Solar was the house brand for Canadian retailer Eaton's. The "Aqua" models were Tudor Oysters.

Interesting I saw my first Daytona in the wild at a coffee shop I walk to. I’m usually too preoccupied and don’t notice watches but it’s a “pour your own coffee” set up and the guy was right next to me. I figured by his dress and age it was the real deal so I gave him a compliment. He said in 30 or so years of wearing it he’s only gotten a few nods.
Which brought me to think of this seiko 5 I recently picked up. Oddly I have gotten a few compliments on it as people tell me “oh you got one two I just got one it’s my first automatic watch it’s so cool.” Seems to be a thing for graduation or new job, get a seiko (for the small group who have Approached me this is by no means a large scientific study)
So it was cool seeing a Daytona and talkin watches with a stranger for a bit. Looks like I’ll be spending most of my day running around getting annoyed but that’s par for the course.

Marking time in a waiting room. Apparently, I’m old enough that after four flights over 23 hours returning from Rio, you can get severe edema and your doctor sends you for imaging to ensure you’re not suffering DVT. 🙄
Guess you should start calling “dibs” on my meager collection.

Just had the pleasure of meeting Colonel Mike Fossum, retired NASA astronaut, at a lunch & learn.
He was wearing the Omega he wore as Commander of Expedition 29 on Soyuz space station. An amazing man, with some incredible stories.

Until about 5 years ago, I owned a mid-1980s model 6263 Daytona Oyster Cosmograph (the manual winder). I had fun wearing that watch at NAWCC regionals for all the years I owned it. I once had a guy recognize the watch from about 50 feet away, in the restaurant at the venue hotel! He also was there for the regional. He asked me if the Daytona was for sale! 😁

At one of those regionals about 20 years ago, one dealer offered to take it off my hands for $5,000.00 because (as he told me) the market for that model had nosedived! Needless to say, I didn’t sell it to him! About 10 years ago, the same dealer (I recognized him but he didn’t recognize me) saw it on my wrist. He offered he a brand new modern Daytona automatic, 18-karat case, crocodile strap, and $5,000.00 (US) for the same watch! I didn’t sell it to him! 😁 I did eventually sell it.

Speedmaster ‘57 - well, not so much “wearing” as “trying on”. Green dial - very subtle in person (unlike the publicity stills).
