Hamilton Electric 14kt Presentation Watch
"Summit"
Speaking of Hamilton Electric watches, my grandfather's was just passed on to me. Like @TexOmega's, this was a presentation watch but this one is 10K gold filled. So it would seem Texaco is a more generous employer than Nationwide Insurance when it comes to gift giving. I was unaware electric watches like this existed and was surprised to learn Hamilton was amongst the first, if not the first, to bring them to the market in the late 50s. The Electrics still have most of the traditional mechanical watch parts inside -- balance wheel and gear train -- but the battery delivers the power instead of a mainspring. Amazingly, the battery inside this one has not corroded
despite the fact it hasn't been serviced in over 40 years. The 500A movement was introduced in 1959 and was the first improvement on the original 500 movement.
sorry double post today but I just found my Hamilton which has been MIA for numerous months. It always sucks losing a watch but it’s kinda cool when they pop up out of the blue cause it’s like you got a new one
Had lost an entire wing of The Home For Wayward Watches last fall in our move. I'm grateful that it turned up week before last so am wearing some of the formerly lost ones.
Mrs. noelekal slipped me this quartz Seiko as my flight was about to depart to the UK, because she didn't trust the vintage watches I wear. I'd had trouble with one on a previous UK trip we'd made a year or so before. Sentimentality overcomes the dislike for quartz so an exception is made.
Coming up on 3 years of ownership. A daily wearer for about 2.5 years. Back on the wrist to celebrate my kids 3rd birthday. Will wear the next 2 months, give or take.
It’s a watch that will stay in my collection, arrived a few days after my daughter was born.
