Went on a longer excursion with some buddies this morning and went through the Stratton lock in McHenry, IL. Good times!

At last we can get to have new batteries fitted. And if I can set the watch to the second why can't a jeweller's watchmaker?

I had to to do the same with a Seiko also refreshed.

I am assuming that this watch is from the 1970s, before Swatch bought Omega. Omega peed off a lot of people when they made their quartz analog watches with a peculiar system for re-setting them. The HOUR hand and date can be re-set with the crown. But NOT the minute hand and seconds hand! In the middle of the crown is a “dimple”. If you push and release the dimple repeatedly, the seconds hand advances one second at a time. If you push that dimple for 5 seconds, release it, then immediately press it in and hold it in, the seconds hand and minute hand take off. Hold the button pressed in until the correct minutes and seconds are recorded, then release the “dimple”,

Then, pull the crown out and turn it until the correct hour (am or pm), and correct date are displayed. That stupid system fools a LOT of people! Even watch repair people who aren’t familiar with these Omegas, can be fooled.

Seiko SRPB55K1, The Black Samurai. Mostly into vintage, but among the few new pieces this one gets the most wrist time.

From the serial it was most probably made around 1979, I bought it new in 1982.

On this one (Cal 1342) pushing the dimple stops the second hand, so it kinda hacks but the minutes hand continues to advance. Moving the minute hand is as you say, a five second push then release and quickly push again.

As I've owned this for 39 years I have MDHS committed to memory. Minutes Date Hours Seconds is the correct order to set things. The movement calibre is engraved on the back and there are quite a few websites with the instructions so it's not hard to find out. I have been known to say "Don't bother setting the time & date. It's not obvious and I'll do it when I get home."

Edit to add that the date is quickset and changing timezones with the hour hand is a breeze. As my job at the time covered the whole of the USA and Canada plus regular trips to UK and European timezones that was rather useful. Of course I didn't know these features when I got my credit card out, it was a simple case of "Like! Must have!"

I’m pretty sure I’m seeing a straight cloud. Perhaps a chem trail I hear about on the conspiracy talk. Don’t think it’s a plane as there are a few similar formations I can’t take a pic of unless I cut all those trees in my backyard down

Looks like a pulse-jet to me. So it's either a left over Vergeltungswaffen-1 or the new American Mach 8

Well that’s a better explanation than my friend who said it’s the lizard people flying rockets dropping nano tech on us. I asked him if I should hide in the basement or something he said “no don’t worry they do it all the time.” I guess that’s comforting.
