E Howard, “N” sized (a bit bigger than 18-size), series VII, 15-jewel, “Stag” grade (Howard’s best, produced in Boston in 1884), in its original gold filled hunter case by H Muhr & Son, complete with original matching case paper. Original single-sunk vitreous enamel dial and original blued steel “beetle & poker” hands. The arrow points at the engraved image of a stag. Howard had three grades. “Hound”, “horse”, and “stag” for their railroad grade watches. Howard was in interesting guy. He was into steam powered firefighting equipment, steam engines, and postal weigh scales. Some of these were still in use in the U S A well into the 20th century. He was approached by Aaron Lufkin Dennison, (he of the Waltham Watch Co.), and the English Dennison Watch Case Co. Howard and Dennison were involved in founding the watch company that became Waltham. Dennison was the dreamer and the idea guy, and Howard was the practical technical guy. They parted company.
Love Your Deauville! Rare beauty! Fantastic 1970s Zeitgeist model! Reminds me a bit about the rectangular Mariner (II, III) quartz model design without beeing so bulky!
Been wearing my 145.022-71 with step dial that I got this week. Spent about an hour bleaching and then aging a new xeric strap trying to match the lume.
A relaxing pocketwatch Sunday! After the earthquake last night in Japan, glad there’s not too much damage, especially in the Tohoku area! Have a great Sunday everyone!
