Another “stray” that was included in an auction lot I purchased for one specific watch last year. Finally got around to cleaning it up this morning.

Given that it's Speedy Tuesday I thought I'd do an extended show-and-tell with this particular Speedmaster...

Inarguably, the most unique feature of this watch is the dial...its appearance changes continuously, varying with changes in the incidence angle of ambient light. And what makes this watch particularly special is that it was given to me as a gift by Mrs. Jones 😀

The caseback is unique as well, and somewhat infamous. Many owners of this model experienced rapid and extensive flaking-off of the black enamel paint. This happened to me also. I have seen photos of this model for sale online that have lost 100% of the black enamel. Because my particular watch was purchased directly from Omega as NOS, it was still under the original manufacturer's warranty when the enamel began to flake off. To make a long story short, my watch took a six-month vacation in Bienne where a newly-formulated black enamel paint was applied. As best as I can tell it has been flake-free in the four years since its trip back to Switzerland.

The watch was originally sold with a standard stainless steel Speedmaster bracelet. I thought the stainless steel looked a bit pedestrian for such a unique watch and decided to jazz it up with an OEM black crocodile strap and stainless steel deployant buckle. Now it's difficult for me to imagine the watch with anything other than this strap.

Thanks for indulging me in this wordy show-and-tell, I hope you enjoyed it!
