·Celebrating Wallabee Wednesday with a new acquisition...a 1991 Seiko 7002-7009 automatic which was gifted to me yesterday by a fellow airline pilot who is the original owner. So...since the original owner happens to be a USMC veteran, I had to check for booby traps...because as a USN veteran, you have to “check your six” in situations like this. And...I’m happy to report there were no booby traps. 👍

·Belair Watch Co. has a pretty cool history. The owner, Eenest Grunwald, originally from Germany, moved to the U.S. and by the 1950’s was the U.S. distributor for brands such as CYMA and Enicar. In the early 60’s, he opened a movement factory in the Virgin Islands which helped create duty fee movements for American watches vs. buying Swiss. Based on the success and duty rules changing, he started selling complete watches under the Belair Watch Co. out of New York and eventually moved to the company to New Jersey. Belair remains in business today, producing branded and private label watches. The movement factory in St. Croix as still operational as well!
Cool U.S. manufactured 1960’s Belair Seapearl 600 - cal. PUW1363. The name Seapearl was supposedly licensed from Enicar btw!

Hi, the cal 910 FMs are 43 x 52 x ~15mm with the cal 911 being at least 1mm thicker. Here it is next to my 42mm Moonwatch. The pilot case with hooded lugs has a lot of steel making it a 139g head vs the Speedy's 97g. 46% heavier! The odd thing is the FM's dial is a bit smaller. And if you disregard the contrasting white racing chapter ring, the remaining part of the dial is REALLY smaller. The hands are correspondingly shorter too. So it feels big and chucky on the wrist but the time telling part of the watch is visually smaller. Despite the busy dial, the all-white hands preserve excellent at-a-glance legibility, imo. I personally luv the watch’s character and it's become one of the anchors of my collection…YaY!
