From a bake sale last year to help out a member. Never ran right and had issues with crystal popping out. Dates wouldn’t set and just sat in my drawer. Decided to get a service just so I can have a weird 70s watch to wear. I believe it is an eta movement if I remember looking at it.
Been sitting in my local watch guy's shop and I finally just grabbed it. Smallish case, but I dig it.
View attachment 1074712 Someone recently opened a thread discussing MANUAL wind watches with date, and possibly day. Of the two dozen or so watches shown, only two had both date AND day. Here is another manual winder with both day and date. I was delving through my stash today, looking for a sweep pinion for an 80 year old U S made a Waltham a friend wants repaired. Thus far, I haven’t found a supplier who has the part. As I “delved”, I uncovered a ratty looking Gruen with day and date. It is a manual winder with a a Gruen 512 CD movement with 17- jewels. I am guessing likely mid to late 1960s. This one features an “imaginative” design for the calendar mechanism that is unlike any watch I have ever worked on. It is not a quick change, but with imagination the day and date can be co-ordinated. It is a good looking movement, nicely finished, and has not had any previous repairs. After conditioning, a new armoured crystal, a new crown, and a couple minor adjustments, it looks like it will be a good performer. The bracelet will do until I find a more appropriate one.
It took some time to settle into a new way of life working from home , but I really do enjoy it now & don’t like going into the office anymore .
