Yeah it’s little things like the sapphire glass (covering the black insert) on the bezel, the the tapered H link and the way the spacing between the “exclamation and it’s’s dot” forms a circle under the minute track. The pin/tube removal on the H links were a total pain in the rear.. but that’s nit picking at the $750 range.

Wearing my stainless & gold Rolex Date.
I bought this watch new from an AD in Reims, France in 1984.
It's been a great watch all these years.

New to me, a 1954/5 Smiths De Luxe A454, the “Antarctic” model. Been hunting one for a while and I’m over the moon with it:

Recently back from routine service and ticking away nicely. Special thanks to @Vanallard for the WM recommendation.

Rolex watches were a lot less money back in 1984. I think I paid $1300 for it.

I had to pay the VAT tax but I turned in a piece of paper the AD gave me at the airport and they mailed me a check for the VAT refund. (I’m a U.S. citizen that was visiting France).

Those were the good old days. Rolex wasn’t the same kind of fashion status symbol back then. People bought them either for their time keeping precision or as jewelry.
