Here’s my Speedmaster sans bezel, which was accidentally knocked off by a very light tap on the bedpost the other night. I actually like the way it looks, and it’s a whole helluva lot easier to wind, but the crystal stands pretty proud and is probably quite vulnerable without the protection of the bezel. It makes me wonder if a lower crystal could be installed if one wanted to remain bezel-less. I do want to get it pressed back on, though, so I hope the local AD is open this afternoon.
Cooler weather brings out vintage last few days. A little pie pan goodness before I strap on another sports watch and rig the boat.
From my extremely precise and reliable (but boring) Wittnauer quartz, chosen a week ago as a matter of convenience, to perhaps my most photographed and favourite Omega watch. My 1950s calibre 355 date at 6 Omega bumper automatic. This watch spent close to 50 years, dismantled, in a tin box until I discovered it.
Hoarder? No way, dude. Disregard the fact that I still have the [Ertl] Allis-Chalmers B-110 lawn tractor model [with matching trailer] that was included with Dad’s actual B-110 that he purchased new [circa 1968] from his father-in-law who was the local Allis-Chalmers dealer in our small farm town in Wisconsin. Dad’s B-110 was the first powered vehicle that I learned how to drive in 1969 [age 5]...good times!
Another wet miserable day north of the wall and ended up tidying watch boxes and taking pity on the Mido
I felt a need to switch back to one of my favorites this week: This shot captures the actual mint-green lume color as well as the true color of the "silvered" subdials. I dropped this watch on a wooden door saddle a couple weeks ago and cracked the crystal in two places. Fortunately , the crystal absorbed the blow as the performance of the watch on the timegrapher did not change from the excellent pre-drop performance after the drop. I decided to install a new crystal myself which as you see was a successful operation. Here is a video clip that captures the way the light plays with this high-gloss dial:
