what would cause a dial (or, dial paint or, any paint) to look black to the naked eye but blue in pics/photos?

Movement serial is 1592xxx. Case ref is 912-5. Ref 912 is listed in my 1957 UK dealer catalogue so it may be that someone swapped the movement at some time?
