·In the U.S. we honor our military dead today. I truly appreciate those who answered the call to serve their country. The horrors so many of them had to experience and sacrifices they made are unimaginable to me.
My naive wish for today is that we no longer have to add to the list of those we honor on Memorial Day.

My dad was named for my Uncle John Goodloe, my grandmother's younger brother, a young dispatch rider who along with his motorcycle was found in a shell hole near the end of the Meuse–Argonne campaign just before Armistice. Our family never learned details. He's still in France.
