I'd say you're right. Late morning there was a Spitfire in invasion stripes flying over Newmarket at about angels 2 (cherubs 20 if you prefer). Heading north so I'm guessing BBMF rather than one of the Duxford based ones.
Thanks for this. When I got home I checked my newspaper which stated that there was to be a flight of Douglas C47s. No doubt the aeronautical experts on OF can distinguish the two models.
Commercial version is the Douglas DC3 (Douglas Commercial), millitary version in the USA was the Douglas C47 (not much logic to military designations but C is normally cargo), UK military designation was Dakota, prefering names to numbers. The same basic aircraft, just variations in fit-out. More info: http://www.airvectors.net/avc47.html I could have flown in a DC3 as a regular commercial flight but stupidly didn't. I did hear a few times "Your instructor is taking the DC3 to Washington. He'll be back in less than an hour." On return instructor leaps into the mighty Piper PA28 Cherokee that I've pre-flighted and berates me for forgetting everything I've ever learned since the last instruction session.... ..... standard patter for instructors
Stranded at home for a week with gout. Just walking out the door to fetch mail . . . [Ca '53 ref 2667] . . . is an adventure.
