路Before a new battery was fitted to my 1979/80 Seamaster this afternoon I was carefully warned that it wouldn't be waterproof without fitting new gaskets and testing. My reply is always "That is the last watch I would take to sea!" Look at it, apart from dining at the Captain's table on a large cruise-liner what use is it at sea above or under water?
Omega AD wants to send it away to have new gaskets at GBP100 a pop, so I take it to a Rolex AD who fits a new battery for GBP15 -- and gives me that warning. With modern (non-mercury) batteries only lasting 13-15 months keeping it immersible would be expensive.
