I showed this artifact recently, on a black strap which I felt was suited to the steel case. But I decided to try it on a brown strap, and I feel it goes better with the dial. After a few initial problems with this one stopping after a thorough service and complete circuit change, I discovered the tuning fork was dragging on the phase sensing coil matrix. After some judicious shimming of the tuning fork to cure that problem, I re-phased it, and watched it for a while. Seemed AOK, that is until I fitted the case back. It quit. Took the back off, it ran fine. Put the back on again, it quit. A previous tinker had fitted an incorrect case back which was too shallow. Contacted the tuning fork. Replaced the case back with a deeper one, and now good to go. Next, I will experiment with the original circuit assembly which I assumed was faulty. When the real problem appears to have been the case back, now solved. I might be able to salvage the old circuit This one is circa 1969, so almost 50 years old. I rather like it!
Phlieger Phriday today with my “Built by Mad Dog at AWCI” 17j ETA 6497-1...which is on the amazing @ChuckMK23 Mt. Baker band...which is on the cuff of my mil-spec CWU-36/P NOMEX flight jacket. HAGWE! During the build at AWCI in early 2018...
