I agree that that is the closest Rolex ever came. Had I found that watch, black with white subdials, before I found my first Speedmaster, I’m sure I wouldn’t be posting here now, if I’m honest. I’d be over in the Rolex forum.

In 1982, if Shreve SF had had a Daytona with that dial in their store, instead of one with the white face and black dials, I’d have sprung for the $1,200 it was at the time, and paid it off some way. And I’d never have bought my -74 Speedmaster in a pawn shop three months later, for about $225.

Hmm...

Anyway, @Canuck : Dibs, please, even though I doubt I could afford it. Ring me first anyway. It is spectacular.

This is as close as I can come to a concession on this issue.

I could not find one of these in the states but who knows but found this one in Isreal
