I’m still wearing my CB, which I got back from my watchmaker last week. While it now keeps excellent time (only about two second a day gain), it’s still occasionally stopping.

It stopped for a second time last night, the same way as before: in the middle of clicking over the minute counter. I take photos every time this happens and I think I’m closer to diagnosing the problem.

Here are the photos, one from last Friday and the other from last night.

    66909868-970C-41C9-BF15-76DF2451543E.jpeg B9A46672-C8FA-4FE8-A293-EF9AFF3C1696.jpeg

Both times, it stalled on the move from 57 to 58 minutes. In both instances, the movement restarted as soon as I pressed the top pusher, disengaging the chrono. As well, in both instances, the watch was less than ten winds from fully wound. (By my count, full wound from completely down on Speedmasters is a little over thirty winds.)

I’ll keep wearing it and photographing when it stops. I’m assuming there’s a gear problem?

My Speedmaster Professional has a caliber 863 movement in it. I just pulled it out of my vault to test how many turns of the crown it takes to wind it fully. It hadn’t been worn for months, so it was totally run down. It took 50 turns of the crown to wind it fully! It would seem to me as though your watch is little more than half wound at 30 turns. Might this be a contributing factor in its stopping! You might want to check with the shop that fixed it.

I suspect it’s more HOW you wind it. I have over a dozen Speedmasters, new and old. I automatically count as I wind them. Some go to 32 or 33 and some barely reach 30, given the way I wind them.

Perhaps you should test run the watch with the chronograph not functioning. If there is in fact a hang up in the chronograph system, you shouldn’t have a problem with the watch hanging up on you. It would also be a means of testing to see how long the watch runs with what you call a 30-turn full wind. I fail to see how my winding action could be sufficiently different to yours, to result in 20 more turns of the crown that I get.

IMHO Kelinda Straps from Thailand are the best custom made straps...
