Hamilton Electric, Everest model, caliber 500. Circa 1960. About 60 years old. Still runs. The Hamilton Electric is the “Edsel” of the watch world. Designed by Richard Arbib who worked with Harley Earl to put fins on the 1948 Cadillac. The Hamilton Electric was the first battery powered watch made available to the public. That was in 1957. Hamilton rushed the introduction because they saw that Bulova, Elgin, and the French LIP company were working on battery powered watches. Hamilton wanted to be first! They wanted styles that would visually put the Hamilton Electric into a class of their own. Design-wise. Too bad they were notoriously poor performers, many of them replaced to customers by Hamilton Thin-O-Matic watches. Better, but still, the damage was done. Both in Hamilton’s reputation, but also on their balance sheet.

This is an amazing watch. My best feature is the bezel mixed with blue and red colors.

New pickup today from my brother who grabbed a new Air King. Actually he took over my hold on the Air King and I took over his 2014 Explorer (for 4k CAD:). Lousy pic, it's in excellent shape other than light surface wear n tear. Short hands don't bother me haha! After frothing over the new AK for the last couple of weeks I settled down to the realization that the Explorer is (for me) the more quintessential Rolex sports watch.
