Shinola Lake Erie monster. The first Automatoc from Shinola. I'll probably do a write up soon because it's surprisingly fun to wear.
Pictures from work: This one is a couple of days old - I'm waiting on the equipment to power down so I can do my thing I walk through a lot of different doors. Today I was working in a small network closet in a great big new shipping depot; this space must have been a couple of million square feet or a little less than a million square meters - either measure it was big and right now empty.
Curious what you think. I'd be interested to hear why you decided to buy one. My reason would be to stick a middle finger up to all those who trash them. They are employing people in Detroit.
Bought it because I like it. And I actually like it a lot. Historical issues with Shinola aside I work with them and they're a great team and truly dedicated to their mission statement which goes beyond watch making. They do employ people and they do take care of their employees and genuinely care about their growth. So yes the movement is from Switzerland and some components are from China, they're still an American company that is trying their best at promoting American manufacturing. They are expensive BUT they do source materials and pay wages that are very high, and they do go the extra mile on presentation. Every strap ( and those are.all.made.in house and are great quality, comes with a strap changing tool. This watch comes as a set that puts the moon watch to shame. Maps, flashlights, bracelet and 2 straps ( rubber and canvas), 2 strap changing tools including one of those "plier" double tools ( name escapes me right now) that alone would cost 50 to 100 bucks. Metal display case and shoe box...... I mean, they're offering a lot. I don't compare them horologicaly to Omega etc, but they do offer, and specially in this case have produced a very honest watch IMO, that has some unique design components like the reverse dome dial and the gray on black ceramic bezel. Maybe during the weekend I'll write up my impressions. S
