You cant always buy new watches, but when you get back an watch from service it almost feels like a new one 😀. Even if you have owned the watch close to 30 years. Roamer Stingray Chrono Diver (with date), produced 1971 - 1973.
"The major Stingray news of 1970 was the introduction of two new Stingray Chrono models – the enormous Chrono-Diver (CD) and the Jet-Time (JT), both powered by the Valjoux 23 movement. The only real difference between the two watches was the outer bezel, the JT featuring a 12/24hr markings. Note the brick linked bracelet."
Next year Roamer introduced my watch, the date version which is powered by a manually wound Valjoux 7734. The size is 43 mm without crown and pushers.
This is the first mechanical watch I bought for myself and where the hobby started...

Apologies for a bit of a long WRUW, but it’s is a special SpeedyTuesday for me. The Extract of the Archives for my Dad’s ST 105.012-65 has arrived!

It answers the question as to which vacation were my parents on when he purchased the Speedy. My Dad claimed it was in January 1965 in Barbados, which would’ve made it an early-bird Pro. When I eventually opened it (after he passed away) and saw that it was a -65, I started having my doubts. Plus the 1506 bracelet has a 4 and 66 stamped in the shape of a triangle... Meanwhile I was generally aware a vacation to Jamaica they had taken a couple years later, the year I was born.

So now, thanks to the Extract, it all makes sense. Manufactured in Oct. 1966, and delivered to Jamaica, he clearly bought it during the Jamaica vacation in the winter of 66/67.

I’ve been looking through hundreds of pictures to find him wearing it. Besides not wearing it much at all, he was usually the one taking the pictures, so it’s been really frustrating. So far this is the best I’ve found. My Dad and his Mom on a Miami Beach vacation around 1974/75.

The angle of the watch here disguises it a bit. May not look like a Speedmaster at first, but the flat link bracelet gives it away for me. Approx. 1970/71

This could arguably be any large chronograph, but I know, and my surviving Mom agrees, it’s the Speedmaster under his cuff. Approx 1968.

Obviously today this 49 year old is wearing the now 50 year old Speedmaster.

And yeah…if you’ve been paying attention, the toddler on the lap...and the kid in the middle doing a early @Mad Dog impersonation...is me. Should I make this my avatar?

Beautiful. Is this one of the smoothest operating chrono ever?
I believe so, EP one of my favorites.

A recent pickup, arrived yesterday: a Polerouter Cal. 215. Crystal is scratched, but signed - a nice bonus.

I'm celebrating Pi Day with a round watch, a 1966 manual wind Bulova Aerojet - a true cheap thrill.
