Haven’t given this one a proper introduction yet. About a year after giving me his Speedmaster, my father came up to me one day saying “I found this other Omega in a drawer. If you’re interested, you can have it too.” He was confident it had been a gift from his parents in the late 40’s or early 50’s. When I had it serviced and told him this cal 501, case 2846/2848 with 16m S/N was from 1956 at the earliest, he was genuinely perplexed. Those would have been lean years, he explained, as it was during his medical education at the Univ. of Montreal. Money would have been tight for a Swiss watch, even for a utilitarian one like this no-date SS model. The best he could come up with was that the late 40’s watch he remembered would have needed service by then and he might have traded it in for this one, but he never gained a clear recollection of this.

My Dad died a year ago today, so I’m and happy to wear his watch today and share it with you all, in his memory.

Congrats! Finally caught it in time eh?
Yup, fortunate that it came back on the chopping block a second time. 👍
