I'm new to Polerouters... is this Cal 138? Also, did Genta design all the Polerouters or only the early ones?
No, this is a winder. The 138ss started out as the 139 in the DeLuxe. It's a bit of a puzzle but best I can figure, UG had already completed their DeLuxe reference when Genta started making changes to the reference which would eventually become the Polarouter. When he added the Bombe lugs the name was changed to Polerouter in late 1954. UG had put all of their eggs in one basket which was the micro-rotor movement. Those were the salad days of the Swiss watch industry. It took ~40 some odd years for the Swiss watch industry to re-capture glory and fame in the 1990's. And, they've really been on a fabulous run since the mid 1990's, haven't they? It's a remarkable business adventure. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote that there are no second acts in Anerican life. But, the Swiss proved that saying wrong!
Just realized I had a pilot's watch and some jet-fuel-like coffee in front of me (a little heavy on the kerosene, maybe, but probably combustible), so here's an impromptu homage to @Mad Dog.
I'm not trying to insult you - is that dial original? If so, It's very literally one of the most sought watches in the entire watch universe. She looks original to my untrained eye...
Got this one locally, and everything looks good to me. Still fairly new here, so I might be wrong. Really love the glossy dial with an even "patina" throughout the dial!
I haven't been here for very long, and I'm not one to do much dibs'ing, but just in case I'm submitting my formal dibs. This one is my personal grail, beautiful watch!
Running errands today in the beater car. The PO has been relegated to beater status. Love the PO....and fits well as a beater.
