·Had been wearing this Seiko for about a year in the mid 80s when I spotted what would become my first Speedmaster on the wrist of an Army Colonel who ran our SSO/SCIF. He had loved it for decades, and I was mesmerized by it. He retired in 1987 and had no sons and offered it to me for 300 usd, which was about half a months pay. He let me pay 50 per month ( and I got to wear it while paying it off). So began my Speedmaster story. It would be 10 years before I got the next.
I should add that he made money on the sale at 300. His recollection was he’d paid about 200 via the AAFES exchange in 1965 or 66. I’ll add a recent photo. 105.003-64
