My only Certina. Circa early 1960s, I bought this one at a farm garage sale. She wanted 50¢, but I only had a toonie ($2.00) coin. I didn’t wait for my change. Chrome plated case, badly worn and corroded, dial, a mess, rattled badly because of a broken rotor post. This had worked hard, as a farmer’s watch. But I liked it! I had the case re-chromed, the dial refinished, a $35.00 rotor post, generic crown, acrylic crystal, new mainspring, reconditioned. Total outlay, about $150.00, plus my labour. The 21-jewel automatic movement is a Kurth Freres model I have always liked. Had I had to pay someone for the work, it wouldn’t have been done. But with a bit of sweat equity and modest expenditure, I have a watch that I like, and it is a good performer.
