It took nearly a year for our son to nearly demolish this watch. That was in 1980 (he was 9 years old.) Broken stem, broken rotor post, broken crystal, and he demolished the original steel Oyster bracelet! I took it away from him, fixed it up with all genuine Rolex parts, and later, fitted this after-market Oyster bracelet. This Rolex Oyster Air-King Date was the first prize in a Rolex sales contest, in 1971. Came direct from Rolex, Canada, with the hang tag. Price? $215.00! In 2021, on the 50th anniversary of my ownership, I made it into a “50th Anniversary” Rolex by replacing the original steel bezel with a genuine NOS 14-karat yellow gold Oyster-Date bezel. I acquired the bezel about 30 years ago. Price? $525.00! I got it as a gift. Headed for the Rocky Mountains for a few days, next Tuesday. This one should survive the trip. I’ve been wearing two wrist watches neither of which have a calendar. This is a welcome change.
