Happy Saturday OF!

I wear this one sparingly just due to its age and my sentimentality for it; it was my great uncle’s watch. At minimum though, I wear it today (production date in 1946), my Uncle’s birthday and Christmas. 77 years young and still tickin’.

Not actually wearing this one today. I picked it up in a barter deal. This one needed a bunch of work, and my friend didn’t want to spend the money. He had a ring he wanted fixed, and didn’t want to spend the money, as well. So I agreed to get the ring fixed for him at my cost, and to kick in a few more shekels to sweeten the deal. He agreed. The watch date code indicates 1943, and the case back is engraved with a 1944 presentation date. I show a before and an after picture.

I re-lumed the hands, fitted a sweep seconds hand, fitted a NOS glass watch crystal which I had in my stash, conditioned the movement, and fitted a pigskin strap which will do for the time being. Not exotic, but different.

For several years starting about 1940, Bulova featured a series of models that varied slightly each year. On the Bulova collector’s website, I discovered that this series of models was called Blackhawk. This one is the 1943 Blackhawk.
