I find the same thing actually, it seems you can't taste one or the other with Scotch. Besides, when you're spending $60+ on a bottle, why would you want to taste anything else?

If you like rye, I think it is a must try. It is strong and very rye-e LOL IMO not to be wasted by mixing it. I drink the hell out of Sazerac's and I would not use this for that. Well, maybe I would ;)

The past few weeks I've been trying a new beer almost every night a few repeats here and there because I really liked them. But today I just wanted to try something completely different. I wasn't feeling beer or wine.

So I texted my cousin about this Japanese whiskey I've seen on IG lately. He told me is was very good and at a good price. But I still wasn't certain about spending $75 on a bottle of whiskey that I've never had(that could be a nice strap!) So I asked the guys at the liquor store about it. They lit up like a bunch of watch nerds getting to talk about new Basel releases. If that wasn't enough of a nudge to buy I'm not sure what would have been. So I bought it. And now I'm drinking it. And now I see what all the hype was about. It's good stuff.

With recently moving, the bar cart has not been adequately stocked. In fact it's just been a place to pile random crap. I'd like to change that. If you guys have any recommendations to add to the cart please let me know. Currently this is all I have... I know, not a lot. Like I said, time to fix that.(ignore the wine, usually keep that somewhere else) IMG_3533.JPG

I have really liked the few Japanese whisky's I have tried. I think they are a touch on the high side money wise but that is because they are really popular right now. Reminds me a bit of years back when I could get pappy's at $42 a bottle. Boy I wish I would have bought cases of that stuff as an investment. BTW the Seiko boutique in Miami has this for the tasting if you ask nice. At least they did when I was there (think it was the same one)

Hibiki has a lot of expressions, all tend to be very subtle and lite, consequently I recommend tasting on a clean pallet. They are quite good. One never available in the US won best whiskey of year a few years back. I think of them as highly refined Scotch.
