Good ol' Kefir - a staple of my childhood, have recently reacquainted myself with it.

Opened a 1996 Raphet Gevrey-Chambertin and was disappointed. :( The guy didn't lie to me - the tannins are fully resolved - but the acidity is overpowering. Next was a Big Basin 2010 that even made me cringe from the greenie meanies. Oh well, two more bottles fall by the wayside in the hunt for a Pinot Noir my wife will like.

Purchased on a lark, opened on a whim, and quite possibly my new QPR Cab: 2013 Rutherford Ranch Napa Valley.

Surprisingly good on the pop 'n pour with relatively light dusty tannin, minimal spice/white pepper, medium acidity, and nice tangy red & black mix of fruit. Tiny hint of tobacco, oak, and baking dough on the nose that doesn't mask the fruit. I don't think it has the bones to last more than a few years, but who cares for $15.98? If tasted blind, I might (maybe) have guessed the appellation correctly because it does have that Rutherford dust texture but certainly not the price.

    Further notes as events warrant.

Have you tried Copain? They are producing some remarkable Pinots, especially with Anderson Valley fruit.

Sure have - their 2009 Wentzel Vineyard. That, and Kosta Brown's '09 Sonoma Coast, have given me hope of stocking a few bottles for Windy. She like the Copain too.

Bruichladdich and 1680 Red tonight. My first taste at a non-peaty single malt from Islay. Not so bad so far

I've been tempted a couple of times to pick up a bottle as a change of pace to my usually peaty malts. Generally mixed reviews on the web if I recall correctly but maybe I'll give it a shot.
