Loved the taste but the burn on the finish was intense...to be expected at that proof. I added a few cap fulls of water and let it sit for 5 minutes and it was perfect for me after that. What did you think?

It does have a good burn, the finish is pretty strong. Weird is it’s smooth until then though, creeps up on me gently then I get slapped across the face with the peppery finish. One glass and I go back to something more subtle. I’m a lightweight.

How do you like the Hibiki? I’ve been searching for the aged bottles after @alam suggested but every one is sold out. I see the Harmony pretty frequently.

I like it...but after comparing to the Nikki from the barrel the nikka has much more complexity and flavor. I hope it’s not as limited as they say it is because that would be my go to Japanese whisky. Also suntory will be discontinuing some of their 12 and 17 year old whiskys (for now) due to shortages so people with connections are buying up everything age stated to stash away just in case some becomes all. I’ve been looking for any Japanese age stated whisky all over New Orleans and have come up dry. And I’ve got a good friend that is a rep for Beam here and he can’t get his hands on a bottle for me at the moment. So screw it buy the harmony and enjoy! Btw I attached a link below if you want to read up on it...

Agree w/ @Jking description of the Nikka 👍 I had the opportunity to sample this 21 y/o during a trip to Okinawa..and indeed, it’s more spicy and rich in flavors..

Same around the DC/MD area...my current three-bottle (low) inventory 🙁 I brought from recent trips to Japan

Stalking the stock boy to see if any Hibiki 17 or Blantons available. He said Hibiki 17 and 21 is the hottest thing going and none arrrived, no Blantons either.

I did pick up a nice Knob Creek with there though, and a Turkish Raki (I like anise every once in a while). I lived in Izmir years and years ago, where this Efe was bottled. Back then, only the Turkish gov could produce it...they monopolized it. Guess things have changed.

@Jking what do you think? I’ve read some good reviews on the EH Taylor single barrel.

This is a Scotch for Bourbon-lovers. I know it sounds strange, but give it a try and you'll see what I mean.

Since there are so many whiskey lovers here, I imagine that some of you are familiar with Jack Rose in DC. I was in DC on a work trip a couple of weeks ago and a friend brought me there. I've never experienced anything like it. Overwhelming menu.

I like it better than the EC12 single barrel. Not as much burn so the flavors really come through. I actually poured a second drink with the EC and without adding water the alcohol burn was way overpowering. But drinking the EHT neat is no problem and that’s how I prefer my whiskey so id go EHT over the EC every time.

On vacation in Gloucestershire and was delighted when I saw that the local supermarked had some decent champagne.

Always drink the local brew whilst on holiday so this Cornish cider is going down a treat in the hot weather.

Glendronach labels are hard to find on the shelves of retailers in my local area.. one of its sibling, the Allardice is simply fantastic!

Anybody have any experience with Hibiki Harmony? It's the only Hibiki I can access at the moment but I've never tried it

It’s good. Very “light” for a whisky. Has a very floral nose which comes through on the taste with a good fruitiness that makes it on the “sweeter” side for a whisky due to it being finished in sherry casks. so it’s like a speyside Scotch and slightly reminds me of an aberlour or Macallan...but very slightly! Little to no burn and short finish. However, if you can track down a bottle of nikka from the barrel I would suggest that instead. More complex and less floral/sweet. But can’t go wrong with the harmony if you can’t find the nikka.
