Would YOU do it? Buying the head of the Speedy now, buying the bracelet later...

Looks good just watch the numbers. 馃憤

Edit: looks polished as well but most dealer offerings probably are.

I can get this for $4100 to my door with a fresh service.

Is the dealer saying it鈥檚 serviced? Do you have proof of this or just their word?

well then why would you have been interested in the other one?

The (absurd?) notion that having the 1171 bracelet would be better than 1450 was my reason. I liked 1171 bracelet better, in other words.

It is from Tourneau, and they said they'd give me all the paperwork once it was done.

In this case, the bracelet holds more value than the nylon strap, meaning you can sell it to help fund the bracelet you want. Whereas, the nylon strap holds no value.

Lol! But try finding as good of an example that doesn't need immediate service... I haven't been able to at least!

Don't worry, somebody on here will have a nice one that they are ready to part with, at some point. You could opt for a nice new bracelet or get an old one something like my old 1970's service bracelet. It was incorrect on my Dad's 105.012-65, so I've gone for the softer option now. I'm on the hunt for a nice rustic brown leather strap to complement its brown dial.

That makes sense! I think I am going to forego that 145.022-78 because of the shoddy hands, though. I didn't catch that the first time around!

Agree with all the above. I bought a 1980s 145.022 a few years back on a modern Speedy bracelet, kept the head, sold the bracelet and bought a 1171. Incorrect bracelets on a watch will have some value to someone, somewhere, straps less so.
I would definitely pass on the '78, too many dollars for what is on offer. If it is the tritium dial you want maybe try looking at 80-90s Speedmasters. They tend to be less knocked about and way better value IMHO.

Definitely. I posted that one above, which I think I may go with.

FYI speedmaster online price cchart is head only no bracelet.

last I checked the 1171/633 is under 500 new from any OB.

I鈥檝e got one on my 145.022-76. I purchased mine without a bracelet.

straps are what make the speedy fun though.

Totally agree, straps are great on the Speedy, the more the merrier, but I always like to have a vintage style bracelet on hand as well. It is such an iconic look. My long term 76 spends most of the time on it's original 1175 and I have a recently bought '91 that alternates between various straps and a 1171 bracelet. I do have the 1479 bracelet that came on the '91 watch, have so far resisted selling that as I strongly suspect it was original to the watch.

So true.

This is going for $4,650, and a bracelet will cost maybe $500 if I can talk a guy down. So is it worth around $5200? I'd say "yes" given the crap I've been seeing elsewhere. I just worry if it would look odd or if folks would call it out of the bracelet if it is not "truly" original to the watch.
You can alway find the correct bracelet later, if the head is nice, price is good...

My amateur eyes still need help identifying polished cases. How does this one look? This one is going for $4000 with the 1711 bracelet. 440053_999_attachment.jpg

Yes it鈥檚 been poorly polished and not very evenly.

Look at this side

Compared to this side

Look at this side by side from speedmaster101

See how sharp the case is on the right compared to the watch you had listed?
