Would this need a lot of work to put right?

My grandfather’s watch from the 50s/60s. In fine working order but a few bits are off.

Appears to be a locally made case with a refinished dial. A good jeweler/goldsmith could likely straighten it out a bit.

For an answer, you’ll need to take the watch to a specialist watchmaker. You have lead solder on the lugs holding the pins in. I see at least one lug that is bent. Hopefully, the individual who messed up the exterior, didn’t also have a go at the mechanism! Let us know what you find out.

The Baud museum in Vaud Swizerland had a whole section dedicated to such work.

We have a name for such things taken from car culture. Rat-watches.

I am curious to see the movement.

Agreed. I just got his vintage Longines back from the factory after a service and new strap. It looks beautiful.
