Just going to post a quick teaser, I'll add more photos later, but another collector pulled me to one side this morning to show a barn find ...

I really struggled to drag myself out of bed this morning ... God, I'm glad I did!

I thought that everyone, not just the Rolex folks, would enjoy seeing it. The same collector has offered me the one below ... it's achingly good looking ...

Crown looks quite new. Barn find...but a very recognisable piece.

The Prince looks nice. Very interested too.

Well the sub is a 5510. It's obviously missing a bezel but everything else that's there is original. The new owner has had a mechanical service, so it runs, but absolutely nothing else has been done to it. The watch hasn't seen a watchmaker apart from that since it was made, though I would have expected to see a superdome on it and it's got what I think is a later service dome.

If there are bezels around to suit it, let me know and I'll put you in touch with the owner.

As for the Prince .... 🥰

Just made my weekend holding it.

He didn't share and, if he had, I wouldn't tell. Suffice to say that I think the price was fair.

Didn't have any service marks, then. The only thing that looks unoriginal is the glass. Easy to imagine a superdome breaking (hell, they don't even survive in storage) and a new glass being installed by a local jeweller.

Nice find. Concerning the Rolex Prince, you may consider in your decision that finding parts for it is quite challenging (some parts are no longer available really):

The I missed this part of your comment in all the running around yesterday - the crown is the "brevet" crown, with the coronet and the word underneath, not the cross.

Thanks and I will but she is a runner; serviced when he bought it and not out of the safe except for showing it to other collectors. I'm not too sure of the dial - the case is superb but I didn't look at the mechanicals.
