Hold onto your dinner or breakfast. 🤮

This one seems to have been reassembled on the dog's bed, with greasy fingers, in the dark.

"What happened? Well, there was some grime stuck in the lower left lug so I used the minute hand to clean it out, but then I got a bIt carried away and before I knew it I'd chopped out half the lug. I decided to stop when the hand snapped. Still, you'd never notice."

Most redials here are fugly but a few of them are not that obvious for a newbie like me. You guys assuredly spent a loooong time looking at watches!

I used to think people were joking when they said some sellers fill the lettering in with a Sharpie, now I believe it 100%.

It is either the sharpie or a fountain pen these days.

Paint "hugging" the indexes, serial number removed. So it's a redial and (most likely) stolen... Poor Connie....

Hello all, first time poster here. I'm just starting out in the collecting game, after owning a Tudor BB since 2013. Omega-wise I got myself a Speedmaster FOIS for my 40th, and have also picked up this (claimed) vintage Omega Genève for my wife's birthday. It is supposed to be a 1973 serial number, for her birthyear, which seems to check out with the Omega database. Having now read this thread I am of course worried that a 47 year old watch should have such a perfect dial. I'm currently on hols in the Alps so don't have the watch with me for a close up shot. I bought the watch from a dealer on Chrono24 but the case was a more or less contemporary effort from eBay. Am I good with this one do you think, or am I about to give my beloved wife a duffer???
On the same reasoning, I'm after a 1951 Omega (Seamaster or similar styling but no date wanted) for my dad's 70th next year. Chrono24 has about 60 offerings, one of which is a definite bad redial, but who to trust??? Many thanks in advance for any help.

Hello and welcome to OF. Seems like you have a good amount of questions so you should start a separate thread 👍 more people will be able to see as this thread's purpose to is to post examples of redials.

Good advice, but for the record this still seems to be a redial. To see the lettering at that thickness from such a far away shot seems revealing. I can't imagine it's an original dial. This is how people used to sell vintage watches, recondition them including a redial, add a new strap and a nice box and make it a "like new" package. This doesn't mean your wife won't like it, but it will probably bother you to see her wearing a redialed watch. (All this said based on this single image, close up really needed as you said.)

Gotcha, and apologies. The main other forum I used (for mountain bikes), encourages us not to start loads of new threads, but I'll adapt!
