I think it’s safe to say that the collecting year 2020 is now done. While reviewing the changes in my collection during the year, I realized that I started and ended my year with two different variations of the same reference. The Wittnauer 242T. The year started with a superb 242T, exactly how I love them : Impeccable lume, Sharp case and some accessories in the set. Later the year I sourced an original Wittnauer vintage BoR bracelet to complete the set. The Wittnauer ref. 8024-242T case measures 39mm (excluding crown) and the watch is powered by the famous Valjoux 72 movement. I was aware of different dials of the 242T above like the so called Solo dial. But all the variations feature a similar design and the same set of hands. Later the year I stumbled across a very rare exotic variation of this reference, fitted with a panda / racing dial and a different set of hands. We didn’t come to an agreement with the seller and I’ve spent several months researching more information on this variation and hunting for another one. After an extended research, I have observed only a handful other watches with this exotic dial and hands, which have been sold on auctions or by dealers. I thought it was special enough and still super appealing to my eye to have another try with the seller. Funny enough, several months later the watch was still available for sale and the seller decided to accept an arrangement - finally the watch is mine and the watch collecting year ended like it started, by adding a 242T to the collection. Hope you and your relatives are safe and are getting ready to a great Sylvester eve. Best wishes of health and luck to all, for the new year 2021 to come !
At 39mm those exotic beauties must really pop on the wrist! Please try that BOR on the white dialed version and really make it stunning
Another new one on me, looks great, enjoy! Toss up between your seamaster chronos and these, are they the same size?
The panda 242T is one of the only watches I've had+sold that I return to and honestly wonder if I should have kept. They're damn near perfect watches. Congrats on the pick-ups+wear in good health.
Decimeter—breaking down a minute into % fractions; it was considered a useful complication for factory and workshops.
