Chicago? Great city. I've started and ended some of Amtrak's long distance train routes there and I always build in a day or two to see the sights.
Chicago…Really pisses me off when people bag on it. Then again as a buddy reminds me, I lived in Jersey for 20+ years and was born there. I should be used to it.

We've got a few lines of argument intersecting in this thread... But I'm really fascinated by these graphs. Any researchers here who can weigh in on the theory that lead poisoning has causal role?

I like to se a graph that shows the calibre and velocity at which the lead is administered!

Charts and graphs can be difficult to understand and sometimes don't tell the whole story, so let me explain in simple terms:

"What can be, unburdened by what has been, can also burden, what has been unburdened."

Enjoy wearing your watch and take any precautions you deem necessary. There's no right or wrong as it relates to your comfort level.

Love a good corn beef, and giant latke, Enjoy!

Please make sure to take a selfie wide enough so we know where you are in the restaurant. What time are you planning to be there?

Be sure to announce it on every platform well before you go to make sure everyone in the area knows. Don’t forget to turn your friend locator on to pinpoint your location.

Take some selfies right as you’re about to take the first bite, but make sure you get really good shots and make a production of it so everyone can see how influential you are- then blast it to all the socials and linger for a while waiting for all that love to pour in.
Also be mindful that your Sea Dweller needs to be hash-tagged when you post to maximize engagement- you want everyone to know how important and in public you are….everyone. 😉

I love the Sea Dwellers even though I know they wouldn't look good one me.
Enjoy

You’ve got me confused with someone else. I’m no social media influencer. Just a guy who loves his watch.

I was trying to humorously (and as always the web can’t convey sarcasm) make the point that this is how people get robbed- not by street thugs, but by web savvy criminals. They announce where they will be with their expensive watches and it doesn’t take much research to put it together.
This is also a problem when people announce they are going on a 2 week vacation and how excited they are about it. They have posted pictures of their family in front of their house in the past and it doesn’t take much for a criminal to put together where they live, and when the house will be empty.

Point taken. Appreciate the concern. On a related note, interesting that women regularly wear diamond rings which are often worth much much more than anything I could afford.

Yay, they didn’t mention Baltimore! ::psy::

Our stats are looking good! Last I saw, have the highest % drop in murder rate in the country over the last year.

Granted, we only get the "most improved" trophy because we're coming from a rough few years of stats... But still, it's awesome to see things trending in the right direction.

Edit: our stat for 2023 was around 46 homicides per 100K, down from nearly 60 the year prior. Current data points to a further ~30% reduction so far in 2024, so maybe get down to ~30-35 per 100K by end of year.

So, crime is down significantly even though the news doesn't make it feel that way.

Has this really happened? People take pictures of themselves in front their house, then criminals figure out the location and wait for them to leave? It sounds like an urban myth to me.

I think it's all relative to your past experience, where you are in the city, and the events you're attending in the city. Downtown Chicago during a heightened security event like NASCAR is not representative of what living in Chicago is to the average person living in a more pedestrian area. Festivals in the suburbs are being cancelled because of concern from crime blow back from the city. Some stats from the CPD:
