The big question for me is how close to five figures will this get if it comes to fruition?

I'll be pretty disappointed if it's priced substantially higher than the black dial 3861 SS on bracelet.

I've noticed a ton of Speedys for sale, I think people might be trying to free up cash for a white dial lol

Just learned that Omega is organising an event for (press and) enthusiasts in Biel on the 15th to 17th of January, asking people to mark their 'lunar calendars' for it. So, I'm putting my money on Tuesday the 16th as opposed to the 2nd. 😉

With yesterday’s radio silence, I’m sticking with my earlier hypothesis. Almost two more weeks to go…

I think the Speedmaster has always been a somewhat high-turnover watch. Seems like a good amount of people, realize manual winding is not for them, don't like the look of the sapphire or hesalite (grass is greener), or just feel like the standard black dial is too boring of a watch.

My experience is that people own mutiple Speedmasters. Sales could be attributed to finding a different reference or finding one in better condition, or flippers who know it's a highly desired watch.

If people don't like a product, it eventually disappears from the market. A high volume, large market can't be explained the way you described it unless there were an equally large volume of people new to the marketplace who were trying watches for the first time and this volume of new buyers is replicating year after year.

As far as people finding the black dial boring, this goes against most collectors who comment on how attractive a black dial is in any reference, seek out black dialed watches, and watch companies who produce a lot of black dialed watches. It's hard to believe that people find the black dialed Speedmaster boring. But, that is my personal bias.

My guess regarding standard production is No. IMHO a special edition associated with the planned Artemis 2 launch. We'll see!

Is it weird that I’m less interested in it if it’s a regular production model?

Personal experience, and I think many may relate. Getting into watches in a more serious way in 2016, and discovering Omega, the Speedmaster was "the Omega" to own based on popular opinion and research. The history and the broad appeal of it's look sucked me in.

I was unfortunately underwhelmed when I finally obtained one, and through further experience I discovered that the Seamaster line is more suited to my taste. As such, the Speedy was sold and replaced with an Aqua Terra, among many others.

Similar experience for me. I was between a sapphire sandwich and the NYC boutique exclusive Seamaster, and went with the Seamaster. Still want a Speedy though, but ideally a “special” one, in addition to a SPM300 Summer Blue.

Nope. I feel the same way. Given the red lettering - I think it will be limited production.

Does anyone needs a teaser with a white dial?

Awesome! The lumed indices on yours versus the little lume pips on the new one make a world of difference

A leading question:
The photos of DC wearing the white Speedy was taking and published by who? Omega, right? Meant to look like a newspaper photographer had taken them on a red carpet scene?

Yes. Omega.

Golden Globes coming up. Let’s see if any of the Omega Ambassadors have it on.

I'm actually guessing they wont. I was originally kicking myself for not noticing a white speedy on Daniel Craig at a Planet Omega event but when my OB sent me my pic later, we realized he wasn't wearing the white speedy anymore. Seems like Omega only gave it to him to wear for the press shots and he swapped back before any actual mingling with the public.
