Will the DSOTM ever become a classic? How do you see its value evolving?

Thanks karalhoin and abrod520 for your comments and empathy. I am recently retired and have to keep reminding myself that I don't need to rush anything - literally,'time on my hands'. So the speed at which I can put on/take off a watch is of no consequence to me, but I'll be happy to save 拢610 (!) not specifying the Titanium strap. I'm more comfortable anyway with a conventional buckle strap - I have a deployment strap on my IWC Portuguese and I find that quite awkward to use and I think it can give rise to an increased risk of dropping the watch. I have a Di- Modell Rallye strap on my 3570.50 and the twin prong buckle on that is very good.

I actually far prefer the regular tang buckle myself - with straps, I like the feeling of strapping it on as opposed to the bracelet-style action of a deployant clasp. Feels much more personal for some reason. And of course, the lesser height of the buckle hardware makes it a bit more comfortable when resting my wrist on my desk or a table etc.

Interesting. Having both for my dsotm I have a complete 100% opposite exp. never noticed the buckle on the desk. So glad we have choices. 馃榾

I actually enjoy the extra height of the foldover clasp and find it a lot more pleasant to close/open.

Definitely good to have choices. But one thing is true Davy, if you prefer the normal buckle, then it is excellent, as you can get your favorite version and save good money while at it! Maybe enough to buy a croc strap too like the ones in other xSOTM.

Keep in mind you will need the deployment buckle for these other xsotm bands.

I have to say, I am enjoying reading all the other positive expressions and appreciations for this watch line in this thread recently. Other than my own, I have yet to see another wearer in the "wild." I guess even my introverted self derives some fun from reading about others' enjoyment of this watch as much as I am mine. Thanks all, it's appreciated!

I live in SF and am out and about all the time and work in the financial district and I have never scene one in the wild. I rarely see people wearing nice Swiss watches here. I've seen a few subs etc. seems like being a tech area everyone has an Apple Watch lol. Mine is collecting dust.

Have slept on it, but still have a nasty feeling I'm going to HAVE to get one of these. I see a 2014 on offer for 拢5.550, so it's dangerously affordable. I am in a dilemma though as I'd always imagined that my third Speedie would be a practical, but nicely patinated, 70s 145.0022.

I was in a similar position. Eventually tried one on at an AD while traveling and was wowed. I could not get the idea of owning an xSOM out of my head after that. My humble suggestion: Let the idea simmer another few days. If it still holds that same wow factor for you, head back to the AD and try it on one more time. If it's still singing to you, you have your answer.

For me it's been a few months - I'd already have one if it weren't for another opportunity having presented itself earlier this year! These things are dangerous, man - once you strap one on it gets hold of your mind and won't let go

Honestly of the 20 or so nice watches of owned over the past I never get tired of this one and have had it about 2 years or longer. Its funny that when the GS came out everyone was flocking to it and then with all the other iterations I feel like people are going towards the original Darkside, If any one of the sides becomes a classic im sure it will be this one. Thanks to the other iterations we now have some strap options with the deployment buckle. The calf with the deployment has made my DS a completely different watch and I much prefer it over the original Velcro and buckle. Those will stay in the box if I ever have to part with it and want to keep it original.

Good luck. Maybe you should go try it on again. Kidding 馃榾

Thank you Bushido, and I think you're right, abrod!!! I don't really understand it as I'm usually only interested in the vintage parts of the watch spectrum. I think the phenomenon we're recognising is down to this just being a beautifully designed and made item (the tactile qualities are every bit as seductive as its appearance) - the fact that it's a 'Speedmaster' is almost incidental. Thinking that way enables me to reconcile liking it, whereas I'm usually moaning that these new versions are somehow detrimental to the spirit and integrity of the Speedmaster concept and heritage. . . I'm definitely going nuts if I'm into analysing things like this!

Stephen Urquhart doesnt 'Give two Fs" about consumers complaining that Omega is "milking the DSOTM for what its worth or diluting its value with multiple new versions". Urquhart has been battling Rolex all his life & to him the Biggest Market is China. Period. I think the last parting advice Urquhart would have given Raynald (whatsisname again ..itchyman or something ) before handing over the reins is always 'Always think China !'

Interesting. I'm sure the demand will sky rocket for the original if this launch happens. Hopefully Omega won't flood the market with them but they are in the business to make money. Then look at the Daytona. Rolex could not keep up with the demand for years. It would be interesting if Omega stopped making the original and this happened. Some people would pay just about anything for one.

Stop saying the word profit. It makes me itchy and urging to buy a few more. 馃榿 Plus for some weird reason it just reminded me of Snoopy. Weird... what does a cartoon dog even have to do with a ceramic watch? I need dinner. 馃榿
