I just received my 1972 Wideboy 1603. Very happy with it.

If anyone knows additional information about the wideboy, I would love to hear it. From my understanding, it seems as though it was only produced through the 70’s. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Thank you.

Looking good and those Wide Boys do have a snazzy appeal. I have only seen them on stepped dials so yea maybe your time frame is correct. The "door stopper" style markers were also quite stylish on the vintage datejusts too.

How is a wideboy different to a regular DJ?

In looking at both dials, you will see the indices and hands on the “wideboy” are much more pronounced (wide).

I think we may have bought from the same seller and just gone in two different directions w/our choices, @Börn ;)

I vaguely recall someone mentioning the 1603 'wideboy' being a known option from at least '71-'78, but don't take that info to the bank and as with the case with any manufacturer, I'm sure some dealers either had NOS or 'could get you one' at least into the early 80s, I'd imagine. I may have seen an early 80s wideboy some months ago, but can't remember for certain.

    Great pairing!

I went through Slique (here on OF) for both timepieces. He is a great seller and is as trustworthy as they come. In fact, when I was looking for my second piece, I immediately contacted him because I knew he could be trusted.

Thank you for the dates (1971 to 1978). With just a limited amount of production time, the wideboy seems rare.

71-78 Is what I heard from one jeweler, but like everyone in hobbies jewelers, most anyway, like to talk, so like I said, I definitely can't guarantee it.

@slique12 is a very solid guy, agreed, though I've actually only chatted with him about pieces.

Yours is also the slightly more unusual no lume version. Congratulations

Exactly. The other wideboy’s I had seen had the lume on part of the hands and behind the indices, which was another motivation for the purchase.

    Good eye!

I had a 1601 no lume wideboy a couple of years back. Because there’s no tritium, the dial and hands tend to remain in better condition as can be seen by yours.

Good to know about the tritium. Thanks rootbeer7!
