Why we are happy when a watch stays in the OF family

It's your fault that you allowed someone to play you. You let it happen and now you want to complain about it.

I suspect it has happened to most of us. Best to learn from the experience and move on.
This is where I complete agree with you- I did allow myself to be “played” and good on that dude for having the acumen to know how to take advantage of someone else to achieve their goals of maximum profit.
I did learn a valuable lesson, and although you see it as “complaining”, I see it as sharing my experience of how predatory people can be- and you have illustrated exactly the mentality of those who wish to prey on us weaklings.
I will take your values to heart and the next time I am on a packed train and I see a pregnant woman standing in the isle, I will shame her for being too stupid and slow to get there early for a good seat, and then offer her my seat for $40 since I don’t care how other people feel- it’s all about me.

Hi @oinkitt

That is where your wrong , not incorrect but wrong.

The OF is a community. Not a sales stage or flea market.

if you can’t see that maybe this is NOT the flea market for you . ( sorry typo on my iphone).

please think about this before you post again ... maybe you don’t want to be a part of a community ...

Bill Sohne

Interesting threat but you haven't offered any evidence that OF is special.

I never said OF is a flea market nor have I ever treated it as such.

I further note that it is not against forum rules to profit from selling watches on this forum.

Perhaps you might like to introduce such riles??????

Can we please end this?

Tensions are running high with everyone these days, let's take a deep breath and start a new direction. I think we know how everyone feels.

"All I am saying, is give peace a chance"!

Hi @oinkitt

Why do you say what you said :

If I wanted to, why not? There is nothing special about the OF.

The Omega forum is a a unique place in cyberspace .. I am along with the rest of the Moderator team ( and the entire community ) to keep it that way.

I pointed out that I thought you are WRONG , and not incorrect.

This is a community. IF you do not like interacting with it , then DONT. You can leave at anytime.

With regards to selling and who to sell to that is at the Sellers discretion. The buyer has a right to keep a watch or resell it for a lower or higher price and if the market will bear it it will be sold ( the buyer becomes the seller and has seller discretion.

Please be respectful of other members here and conduct yourself accordingly.. or You can leave.

Am I making myself clear to you ?

Regards
Bill

I hear what you are saying comrade!!!

I guess you would consider me despicable for disagreeing with you.

I generally only despise people who rape or murder and the like.

I trust you NEVER do anything for profit!!!

You are clearly projecting your feelings and values upon other people. Just because you would do something, doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. And claiming 'that everyone does it', is just a way to justify bad behavior.

Concerning profit: I see my hobbies (motorcycles, watches, guns and in the past off-roading) as a source of pleasure and mental health. If I ever looked upon it from a financial point of view, that would be a mistake as those hobbies are all moneysinks.

I happen to have a career (i.e. Software Engineering) that allows me to indulge on those things.

'Profiting' from trading watches is completely anathema to me.

I see the OF as something special with an amazing community. We can never agree if you fail to see that, because we are operating with a different set of values.

Have a good day, Sir.

I note I never used the word "incorrect", I used the word "evidence".

Again, you have offered no evidence I am wrong, In fact, in the spiel above you state I am right. The OF sales forum is a market place like any other sales platform, as such it is NOT special.

I don't believe I have disrespected anyone, I just hold a different opinion.

Have you made yourself clear?, yes, if I disagree with you, you will threaten me.

You might like to look up the meaning of the words wrong and incorrect in the dictionary….

wrong
[rɒŋ]
ADJECTIVE
  1. not correct or true; incorrect.

So, I cant be both wrong and correct!!!

This happened once to me (as far as I know). I sold a watch to a local young kid from our watch collector group. I sold it on a trade and cash, and since he was young (21 yrs) I cut him a deal. In any case, next time I saw him he told me he sold it. I had no idea he was a flipper. I was disappointed.

Also in our group is another dealer/flipper, he is upfront and all is cool. I ended up letting him sell a straight writing for me, we agreed on price prior, he sold it, and wired me cash.

If the above is not clear enough ... it not about opposing views... just no common ground between you and others in the community ...

Please take a 30 days vacation from posting on the OF.

Your still allowed to read the forum.

The whole reason I created this thread was to

A) show something that might not be known about to novice sellers
B) mention how good it is to see a fellow member enjoying the watch you enjoyed instead of it sitting in some dealers window or inventory with a unobtainable price on it

If I had a choice to sell to say @UncleBuck / or a newer member that is learning and contributes or a 0 post dealer it would be a no brainer to me.

First watch I ever sold was to a young member that was asking heaps of questions and showing heaps of redialled and poor condition watches. Sold the watch at what I had paid 2 years earlier. Could have listed it here for a few $$s more but considered the play it foreword route like I had received from other members.
( Dennis in his day was one of the custodians of this by selling many great watches to members that he could have got much more if he sold outside the forum or even just listed them here )

That’s why this place is special.

I appreciate the points you are making. After my first few sales, I realized that pricing a watch in the Private Sales forum requires strategy. If it's too low, flippers and watchrecon trollers swarm all over it, and legitimate newbie members are suspicious that there's something wrong with it. Nowadays, I just try to put a fair price on a watch, and stick with the asking price for zero-post members, without mentioning that there may be a super-secret discount available for established OF contributors.

I really dont know what his motivation is. But i guess he is planning to keep the watch, unless somebody makes him an offer he cant refuse 😉
Thats the last bit of our comunication :
I think I bought three watches here. Two I have one I gave to my wife to pass on to someone in her family who loved my watch collection. I quoted the above post about the guy saying he put a watch online for sale at too high of a price so it wouldn’t sell. I’m not sticking up for this guy nor am I saying he is telling the truth but I can tell you I actually do put watches online at extremely unrealistic prices so they don’t sell. I do this because my wife is happy if she thinks I’m trying to sell a couple watches as I pick one up. Yes it’s deceptive and I guess is a bit scummy to do but when you are married you can either be right, or you can be happy, you can’t be both.
