Why The Speedmaster X-33 Matters

Good day a Everyone...
I’ve been thinking seriously finishing my electronic Speedy collection with the acquisition of a Z-33. Noticed a few up for sale on numerous sights. Price ranges a bit on condition the type of bracelet or strap. The 2 potential choices for me are either the brown leather, or the rubber black Speedmaster embossed version.
The Titanium bracelet seems to my eye be lost when you consider the enormity
Of the size of that Titanium case. The contrast between case and strap I think does make a difference. So the ? Is New or Used. A near mint is not that far off the price of a new. Hmmm...

There is a Skywalker in my local pawnbrokers.. It’s been unsold for well over a year now.. Good deal or not?

They should pull the crown to stop the hands and save on the battery - it's only good for 24 months and then it's not cheap to get it replaced properly.

I wonder if pulling the crown would compromise the water resistant?

But Skywalker and Z-33 has a way to put the watch in sleep mode to save battery. But the hands would park at 12 and LCD turned off. So nothing much to see there (not good when you trying to attract buyer, haha)

I'm pretty sure that my Skywalker's hands keep moving unless I pull the crown (which sets them to 12 o'clock and rests them there), although after 5 days of not operating a button the LCD will turn off.

Absolutely love the image! Bravo!
I dug mine out of the shrine today and wore mine! Magnificent watch.
I am fortunate to have also a Gen 1, and a Skywalker, plus a Z33 in my collection!
I love them all ! Each is a different guilty pleasure in their own right!
All function beautifully and are fun to switch up. The Z33 gets an interesting comment when ever I wear it. The Skywalker is my nightly favourite for the Alarm feature each morning at 03:00 hrs. All very cool to own and use!

Find the X33 fascinating, if Omega reissues to original form, I would like to get one.

Interesting enough the Z33 is very similar to its cousin the Sky walker. Functions are nearly the same except the Aviation related programs. It would be a very handy tool for a charter or airline flight crew member. I love how bright the
Digital display reads in bright ambient light. Very legible at high noon! I do wish the illumination on the Sky walker was brighter in low light situations.
The audible alarms are great !
The Gen 2 X-33 is also a favourite of mine to use as Well! Canadian Astronaut
Chris Hadfield absolutely loved his! Lots of neat video of him wearing it in many situations on the ISS! One of the reasons I fell in love with it!

After having had this watch on my "short list" for quite some time, I am happy to report that I was finally able to find a nice 2nd generation 3291.50!

Super comfortable on the wrist (my first titanium watch so do enjoy the nimbleness weight-wise!), in great condition, very intuitive setting and use of the functions... a true tool watch!!

Before I have a chance to have it looked over by my watchmaker, I had a few quick questions for current owners:

- is the running second on your watch perfectly aligned with the minute and hour markers or is it ever so slightly off to the left of the markers?
- when you have the date displayed on the digital screen, do you also happen to see the day indication "flickering" at each beat or the second hand? (It is very faint, and only happens in this mode, not in any other one)
- alarm levels: my understanding is that this should be quite loud, up to 85db. Has anyone have an issue whereby AFTER a battery change (which the seller just performed before selling me the watch), the alarm volume had changed, for example if the case back was not exactly put back as it was supposed to? Just curious what could cause this.
- do you always align the time displayed by the hands with the time displayed in digital mode or do you use the fact that the two do not have to be aligned to display yet a third time zone ?

In any case, I LOVE this watch. A great addition to the collection of mechanical watches.

And here is a picture:

As mine is a G3 I can only offer an answer to question #1. The seconds hand on mine does not perfectly align with each second marker around the dial.

Yours looks great. Its a perfect tool watch for an office person or an engineer who doesn't have to do the heavy stuff or for travel!

Not an X-33 owner, but I do love a good appreciation thread on OF. Thanks for the pics everyone. Easy to feel the love.

A watch is only as good as the watchmaker who assembled it. This can be more or less easily fixed.

After seeing all the X-33 and Z-33 talk, I am also going to look into it further.
Look into the sales corner. There is a nice G2 being offered up by one of the forum's most trusted.

A very distinctive piece, for sure. I was this close (pinched fingers) to getting that Gen 2, but I’m not wanting a ton of watches and am too attached to sell my others (or my fam is). Rumor is that the next gen X-33 is in development.

Not to go sideways, but I would sell my Ti Panerai except that my wife likes that one!

Well, for one I am sure that Panerai is too large for your wrist... and second, “who’s the boss??!???”!! 😝
Oh wait, you are a smart man: happy wife.....!!!! 👍
