Technically you are correct. Apple doesn’t publish the strength of their magnets, but both watches should likely be okay. In general, though, not a good habit to get into.

The newer iPhones have magnets for the MagSafe products. Here is a youtube short showing the magnet layout comparing an older iPhone to a new one via magnetic viewing paper.
