The 1969 Omega Speedmaster Mark II was based on the original Alaska Project watch that Omega developed for NASA. For a long time, these watches were completely underrated. They could be had for less than €1000, and sometimes, even for half of that. Those days are behind us, but the Speedmaster Mark II 145.014 is […]

The Omega Speedmaster Mark III was a cosmonauts' favorite... the Speedmaster Mark II was AFAIK only used during training:

Mk IIs are bloody great. The way Speedmaster prices have gone, a good (preferably Racing) Mk II is the only way I will ever get to own a vintage Speedmaster.

Me too. I love the racing dial. There was a great one for sale on here recently @Toishome
I was so tempted, but unfortunately I don't have a spare $3k as I have had to buy a new chainsaw instead (thanks storm Arwen). This is like the polar opposite of buying a nice watch, but perhaps slightly more functional when it comes to cutting trees...

I don’t have one yet, a racing dial is on my list and they are still relatively affordable so…

Did you ever notice that in a 50 year old photo, no one even blinks that the guy behind the pair is wearing a mask. What is old is new again 😀

Mk2 racing dial has style. Who cares who else likes it, it's different from the flock of thousands of standard Speedmasters out there. Maybe some would like it to be "iconic" but there are enough of that description out there already. Time to let those discerning few enjoy this watch without it being at the top of some desireable and thus unobtainable list.

The Mark II is a great watch, and I regret not buying one when I had many opportunities to get one for a song in the mid-2000s. Of course, just like my other watches it wouldn't have survived "the Great Cull" of 2014 when the choice became to keep my chronographs or to keep paying my rent, but I still would have enjoyed the memories like I have from my "Mark 4.5". And while I liked the latter a lot, I always regretted how thick it felt on the wrist, and that's where the Mark II would clearly be more comfortable.

Who knows? Maybe I will one day get tempted to get one, even at current prices...

I love that chunky case. What a nice catch. When I see watches featured on certain blogs or whatever we call these things I figure it’s probably the end of me getting one. I saw Hodinkee did a write up on omega dynamic (it focused on the chrono) but mentioned the regular dynamics and was selling one for 1,400. I think I payed 285 for mine.

Well anyway you got it now and looks like the price could be pumpin and it’s a humdinger of a watch.

Yes. Yes they can. Turns out watches and cars aren't the only items folks collect and have collector value!
