What is your love story with watchmaking, how did it start?

For me it started after seeing a cool G-Shock in one of the Mission Impossible movie, MI:3 I believe, and finding out it was solar powered and would sync with the atomic clock. I still like the watch but I wish it had normal lugs so I could wear it on a strap.

I think the OP may mean watch tinkering, not watch collecting

Just the world of watchmaking in general whether it be collecting or building an actual watch.

For me it all started in 2015 once I began to work for Omega, I became very appreciative of watchmaking. Learning how a watch works, the components and man hours it takes to achieve these true works of art and also being taught to build my own watch as well. Then I found out from a client about this forum and dug in right away, I do not post a lot I am still in the learning stage, I am very glad that this community exist so my knowledge and passion for watchmaking may grow.

Buying my first Speedmaster 15 years ago, reading up on the exploits around it, getting fascinated by the fact that a standard watch can survive in outer space (best watch in the world of course ;-)) and suddenly owning a few of them. Still buying way more than I should, the wife isn't amused...

For me it was a simple Seiko manual wind that I received from my mother in 1978.

It started with buying a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reserve de Marche and inadvertently joining WUS forum. And rest is history... i bought an impressive collection in no time.
