No, it can also be on the outside, though it is very uncommon.

Can one love and appreciate without owning one? (yet...)

The Certina vintage are great watches IMO

I sure love this Certina (my wrist but sadly not my watch):

Wow, it's like a Ranchero, but with a nicer case!

This watch on eBay caught my eye, so I sent the seller a message to ask if he had the bezel. He replied immediately saying that this model didn't come with a bezel. The watch has other issues obviously, but I might have considered it at the right price if he had the bezel.

...unless the case has been swapped, this is all correct. DS' with these dials came as divers or as ordinary DS'. Focus on the cosmetics as all the movement parts are shared with a host of readily available watches, none of which has any discernible differences. This is its second run on eBay and it is an interesting watch in a so-so condition that will require a fair bit of work. Price is not unreasonable, but not a steal either.

That's interesting. It just immediately jumped out at me as looking strange with such a wide border around the crystal and no bezel. Not even a plain steel bezel. I think the dive style of this reference appeals to me more. I do like the dial though.

Edit: I looked at this seller's other items, and he has a lot of over polished watches in rough shape, including a Kontiki, a Constellation, and a Flagship. There's a Memomatic with a nice case, but the wrong hands. A SeaWolf with a dial that has been entirely erased. A sad collection of watches that were at one time really special.

my Certina DS diver seems to have an unusual back. Instead of the turtle it shows an eagle... Can anybody of you give me more details about this?

Looks like a custom made back for a military organization. Possibly Syrian?

Boom!
I haven’t realised how large the one on top was, until i tried it on at the chrono24 gtg last Friday.
Also, that faded black grey-ish dial - red bezel combo is something to die for.
Not mentioning the military provenance of some (Hungarian helicopter pilots in the 70’s).
Oh yeah and the V72.
Ok, I’d better stop popularising before I grab one myself
and the relatively low production number
and the rarer 728 movements compared to the 726s that went into the Eternas
and and and...there are way too many cool things about this watch 😀

Just snagged this one off the bay, now let's wait:

If my eyes do not deceive me, it has the early ESA quartz with the shock-proofed motor. Incabloc + quartz, how cool 😎 Still has the original sticker on back for the next battery change.

I am a also Certina lover! I have the DS Action Diver with Precidrive and I have been enjoying it SO much. I have used it more as a sporty and beater watch. 41mm is a good size for a mens sports watch (I'd prefer 40 but the watch is rather thin and 41 is ok). The look is timeless and the brushed finishing means that it doesn't show scratches. Details on the dials (including markers and date window) are very well executed. Finally the thermocompensated quartz Precidrive is a very accurate movement. It is not a mechanical movement, but it does serve a purpose in my collection.
When my partner saw how much I was enjoying it, she decided to buy the DS Action Lady. When it arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised. It is very beautiful, stunning dial (pictures really don't give him justice) and it is chronometer certified (although meaningless for a quartz watch, it is nice to have). 34mm is a great ladies size for a sports watch.
They are great robust watch, and the price point is a steal (you can buy them online with very substantial discounts from ADs with warranty and all!)
