Is that solid gold ?

Just plated. @Skrotis has a solid gold one, unfortunately without the 18K bracelet..!

Just had a better look at the listing.

It is in fact 18K solid gold.

I feel a bit sick.

EDIT: This is, to me, the ultimative Certina DS. While it isn't the most valuable or oldes reference, IMO this is the zenith of all the DS technology (the DS-2 is even more sturdy than the DS) with a solid gold case and a chronometer-rated movement; the only DS ref. to have this.

85 fυcking Euros.

As a glass-half-full kinda guy, I'd like to point out that at least it didn't have a matching 18k bracelet. 🙄

Here are other pictures to be saved on this site for posterity:

That 18k DS-2 is just something else 😲

To bring the thread back down to earth my Blue Ribbon arrived his morning. The crystal has a crack in it so it’ll need replacing, but still I had a good 20 minutes with the polywatch to try and get it as good as I can. Also there was enough wrist cheese on this to make a pizza. I thought I’d got it all but can see some still lurking under the crown in the pictures.

And I hadn’t realized the dials on these were textured so that was a pleasant surprise. Everything else seems correct too but the back is super tight so I couldn’t check inside yet. It’s a pig to photo well though...

Well your free Certina beats my 25 euros hands down.

But I bet my 85 euro buy beats your freebie 😉

i was just mid-post with a confession that I was pulling your leg !

But I can add that I was at home today. I’d been scouting eBay in Germany most of the morning then at 11:30 my Certina arrived and I spent the next hour or so cleaning it up. So quite possibly my Blue Ribbon lost me the DS-2 as I’d have been all over it if I’d seen it, and looking at the listing it seems there was more than an hour before it sold.

Sorry to hear you didn't get it, even though it would probably haunt me every time you posted it 😉

Funny you should mention that it is very tight; the two Blue Ribbons I've had both had completely stuck casebacks. The ol' superglue and nut solved the issue 😁

Oh that’s interesting. I tried it with a mini-Jaxa tool on the back and just my hand on the case and it wouldn’t budge. I’ll get out the heavy duty opener tomorrow and have another go.

I also tried to put a strap on it but had no luck at all with straight springbars. I’m guessing I’ll need a curved strap with curved bars, or have you managed to fit straight ended straps onto yours ? It’s a bit hard to tell from your picture...

Edit to ask... did you ever change a crystal on one of these ? Need to work out where to source one...

You're right; I had to bend two 19mm springbars slightly to find room for a strap there.

I wholeheartedly recommend using instant glue along with a socket wrench for casebacks. Nearly no chance of scratching anything and residue glue can be cleaned of easily with acetone. This is always how I open my new watches the first time...
