Oops, that’s a Zenith isn’t it?
Looks like a similar marketing tack so still a good link to make...

That one is straightforward:

I also thank you for the adverts

However, you’re going to excuse me but I still can’t see by the pictures of the advert if the watches are all supposed to be in stainless steel or if they also did some chrome plated 👎

You're welcome. Typically steel.

Without reading up much on it, I always thought that the Bristol designation was meant to bring a touch of English gentility to Certina's lineup. Just like Mayfair, a posh and expensive district of London.

At the time of these being manufactured Bristol was quite well known for associations with Bristol cars, aircraft manufacturing too ( concord built here later on).

Does anyone know why they used the Bristol name - seems a bit random for a Swiss watch?

Waterking and Bristol lines are very similar. I have read speculation that Waterking was renamed to Bristol in order to boost sales in the UK market. Just a theory though.

From the 1969 Certina catalog:
„The Bristol model group is the hit of the Certina men's collection. With just one case shape and a high-quality basic movement, we have created a whole range of different watches for you. All Bristol models are waterproof - and each one offers you maximum quality at an extremely affordable price.“

Btw. Waterking was the generic name for all waterproof men's watches with normal crown and which did not belong to any other series.
😉

Looking at the old Catalougues on the vintagecertinas.ch is a good idea:-

The one on the right is a beauty. A sort of slate grey/blue I have one on my wishlist.

I have a Certina Bristol 190 with arabic numerals and it's a nice everyday watch. In general, I feel like the Bristol range is underappreciated. I especially like the 228, nice chunky lugs and numerous interesting dial designs.
