$1400! Sweet, didn't know my DS is a tenbagger.

That's a $140 watch at most - it'll be interesting to see if anyone bites 😀

Hoodwinked if anyone does.

Troels, Yours would be $5k in Hodinkee money if that sells for $1400

It's interesting that Hodinkee is regularly able to sell vintage watches for ridiculously high prices. When purchasing a new item you can often save around 30% if you shop around. This is the normal range and what consumers are used to. You don't have to worry about being gouged when purchasing fancy ice cream from the grocery store. Most people very rarely buy antiques or vintage items, so they they simply can't imagine a large watch site like Hodinkee would shamelessly slap a 10x price tag on a watch. Effective strategy. Makes me sick.

We all know here watches like this can routinely be had for between £150 and £250. However earlier today I was at my watch repairer and he had a 1970s Rolex datejust on his bench. As I was wearing my own DS I asked him to let me look at the Rolex so I could do a little comparison. The DS compared favourably in every department, finishing was on par along with the general feeling of quality and heft. You would never have guessed one was a 3K watch and one a £180 one. My point is, I suppose, that although we know the Hodinkee price is ridiculous these watches should be worth more than they are. They are massively undervalued. I have always hankered after a vintage airking or datejust but I feel my DS is scratching the itch for a slightly dressy but classic everyday vintage watch.

I agree. DS certainly has a surprisingly nice 'feel' to it, much better than '60s Omega SM 600 136.011 for example.

I recommend DS' all the time - to my eyes it is more or less the perfect vintage watch.

I have no idea of how many I currently own 😁

As I promised @Eve and @Zapatta, here are my new arrivals:

The 5801 113 on the left is in very good condition and apart from some lume loss there is nothing to complain about.
The PH1000M on the right will be returned as it has too many issues due to a recent service with a watchmaker who apparently hadn't access to some hard-to-find parts. I could get it in peak condition, but I shouldn't take on projects...

A real shame since it was very cheap and the dial and hands are pristine. Even came on an original bracelet 🙁

If someone would like to take it on, let me know today. I'll be happy to see it go to someone on OF.
How did I miss this??? 🥰

I think the 30% is fine...but these Certinas are just total robbery, it's quite shocking.

I really agree and relate. I would love an airking or datejust... I don't have many opportunities to see vintage watches, but recently I saw some vintage Rolexes for sale at the Real Real in SF and looked at all of them - and honestly was pretty underwhelmed. Sure, cool and great - but worth the coin? Hard to see, esp when they aren't rare.

This arrived a while back, but took its sweet time. Great watch, pretty great condition. 80s watches don't get much love - build quality usually suffered a bit - but pretty hard to find a total package like this in this condition... Really like the unusual flat, chamfered crystal...

Found my way into this forum after looking for other relatives to my Certina. Good to see so many nice pieces!

Here’s my addition: circa -65/-66 DS (5801-112). I’m not sure on the bracelets but otherwise in quite original condition. I have the orig. warranty paper also (not pictured) putting the purchase to 01/1967.

The current leather strap is 20mm and look old enough to be from same time period but aside from the clasp it does not have certina branding and is slighly cut to fit the 18 lug width. Any idea what leather straps were the standard option or was this locally put together using Certina’s clasp? The package is topped with ”non-brand” metal bracelet (VWK).

Found this Waterking 215 cal. 25-66 for ~70€
As I'm into Certinas lately, but still catching up with the knowledge, would very much appreciate a second look from more knowledgeable 😀

Crown seems to be a replacement, compared to other 215 photos I found on the web. Minutes hand also a bit off in its final part, might be the poor picture quality though. The rest seems to be ok for my noob eye

Hi guys
Another 60’s certina Bristol purchased today. I love the dial, but the watch is in dire need of some tlc. Not sure what to do, may look for a better case for it.
