Only just seen - that's really striking. Not only is it the best Argonaut I've seen not already owned by @frankpaul, but there's something about those lugs that truly distinguish it. I'm not a fan of most of the 1960s/70s style language (I was there...), but this is just that bit cleverer than all the usual. The case actually uses its mass and does something with the light around it. Nice! 馃憤

I was a little bit suprised when this watch showed up today, I was of the impression that all Certina ds whitout turtle was a patent pending.

I have had two or three of these. I guess they are some sort of transitional variation.

I agree. Certina probably still had back covers left! 馃槈
All in this configuration which I know are from 1961...

Is that a Certina bracelet? It looks good

Sorry, I apologize for the late replies: yes, the bracelet is from Certina. Unfortunately younger than the watch, maybe from the late 80s?

@TimeODanaos:
The screw back is a normal "turtle back" for the automatics - I have not photographed it specially.

I am a big Certina fan and have focussed my obsession on the DS line of the sixties-seventies, but interesting stuff has been nearly completely absent from the market lately - or I may have missed a few gems.

Feeling a bit bored, I have bought a few interesting pieces for very reasonable prices:

The Certronic was a $35 gamble that turned out to need only a fresh battery and it is now humming away on my wrist. The DS Titanium was a surprise succes as it too was pretty inexpensive and is actually a fairly accomplished watch. Titanium case and integrated bracelet with gold details in great condition, accurate and carefree quartz movement topped with a sapphire crystal. Slim on the wrist and troublefree - really taken with this one.

The last one is a model I've had before, a Certina Blue Ribbon. It was Certina's dress option at the time and has an excellent automatic movement (same as the contemporary DS), a beautiful dial and screw-down caseback on the steel case. A Seamaster DeVille for a third of the price.

Great watches and very fairly priced in today's market... Can't recommend Certina enough.

I got this one back from watchmaker recently with a fresh crystal and service. It鈥檚 a 25-45 auto with a cool two tone dial. I love the way the dial has aged. It鈥檚 also curious that the hands and markers appear to be different material, but hands seem original given the corrosion on them and the corresponding radium burn on dial.

I got this from eBay for like $130, hard to beat the value of these!
